Membership dues are currently $65 USD or £50 GBP per annum. Membership is international; non-US/UK members can choose whichever currency has the most favorable exchange rate for their native currency. Their payment method will be charged in their native currency; the Society bears any conversion fees. In addition to a variety of other benefits, dues cover a year's subscription to the Historical Novels Review magazine, mailed to your door each quarter. The Society accepts credit or debit card payments through the website. Regretfully, the Society cannot accept cheques.

A lot. The more that we know about you, the more we can help. Authors and publicists frequently ask if we'll feature or promote their books as non-members. We will, but members get priority. We also offer a variety of avenues for getting the word out about your novels, including HNS social media channels, the New Books by Members section of our print magazine, Forthcoming Historical Novels through our website, and discounts on sponsored launch interviews.

Yes, all writers, published and unpublished, are welcome to join. You'll make connections with other writers, and have access to all the members-only Facebook groups, such as Manuscript Critiques. You can also take advantage of discounted registration to our conferences, which include agent one-to-ones and pitches, where you can submit the first few chapters of your manuscript.

Yes, of course! You should be able to find just what you're looking for in Editor's Choice highlights and our 25,000+ reviews, with 300+ new novels reviewed in every issue of Historical Novels Review. As a member, you can also apply to join our reviewer team. You're also very welcome to attend our events. Past conference speaker line-ups have included Tracy Chevalier, Alison Weir, Mervyn Bragg, Diana Gabaldon, and many, many more.

The first step is to join the Society. When you join, you'll receive a welcome email offering ways to get more involved with the Society. This is your chance to reach out to us and let us know what you can do. In general, the Society doesn't accept unsolicited article submissions. Most of our articles are written by Society members. Please be aware that we have guidelines/criteria in place, and that all work is edited. Unless we know your writing, we'll ask for a sample piece. Members who have passed the vetting process can request to be added to the contributor team managed by our Features Editors. Reviewers are also Society members who work with our Reviews Editors to craft authoritative, objective reviews of over 300 titles per quarter. We'd love to work out a system for 'group' memberships - where, for example, a book chain joins and we'd send magazines to ALL your stores. But if the mailing costs fall to us, this will cost the same as standard membership.

Not directly. However, we have a variety of opportunities and programming that will help writers who are starting out. We offer manuscript critique groups, access to different writing awards, continuing education, and meeting slots with agents/publishers through our biennial conferences, offered on three different continents. We also have industry professionals who are Society members. Participating in these and other connection opportunities can bring you into productive contact with editors and agents.
